a Snowflake quilt top

a Snowflake quilt top

Today I enjoyed some quality time with my sewing machine at last! Sure there are stacks of fabrics and random supplies to organize, and I can’t find my favorite rotary cutter, but I’ve located enough essentials to get back at it. Yay, a snowflake quilt top!

REMINDER

Since we continually slam ourselves through the paces every day, a mental vacation on a daily basis can relax and rejuvenate the mind and body. But how do we take a mental vacation daily?

  1. Schedule 5 to 10 minutes on your to-do list. Write out relaxation time or mental vacation  (holiday).
  2. Then find a comfortable chair, grassy hill, soft couch or quite environment in which you can drift away.
  3. After you’ve loosened your belt taken your shoes off and prepare your body for its holiday.
  4. Allow your eyes to close and with several briefing cycles in and out, allow your breathing to slow down. Let your entire body relax. Let the tension go and sink into the supporting environment with every exhalation. Allow your whole body to relax.
  5. Now you have prepared your body and mind to take a mental vacation.

Think about your favourite place – mine is the Botanical Gardens in Sydney. Allow your mind to drift to whatever your favourite holiday/vacation place is and take your total person on this well-deserved trip.

A daily 5 to 10-minute vacation is a great way to relax and revitalise your total mind, body and spirit. It may take a little practice to perfect your visualisation, but once you get in the habit of taking this time out for yourself, you will definitely begin to see the benefits. You will feel more relaxed, more energised and more productive.

Note to self, remember to come back. Besides benefitting your total person, this vacation will not cost you a cent.

Color Inspiration: Mesmerizing Shades of Mosaic Tiles

Merriam Webster’s defines a mosaic as: a surface decoration made by inlaying small pieces of variously colored material to form pictures or patterns. And whether they be created with stunning slivers of stained glass, starkly contrasting shards of ceramic, or gorgeously stained tile, we here at Colourlovers have always been big fans of all things mosaic.

Cassandra Ott’s Rainbow Paintings + Best of the Web

After a difficult and divisive election season here in the United States, I’ve been gravitating towards imagery that celebrates unity, love and color. Rainbows are the ultimate symbol of that feeling for me, so it’s no surprise that Cassandra Ott ‘s rainbow series is making me smile right now.

In this video posted by Kartuna Studio, you can see the artist sketching out the general idea for a mural and I love how they show a quick overview of the process from concept all the way through to execution through incredible team work.

10 Designers and Artists Over 60 To Follow and Support

Writing this roundup of incredible designers over 60 was really exciting for a lot of reasons. I wasn’t familiar with most of these people, so finding new (to me) artists to discover and enjoy is always refreshing. I loved seeing the strong aesthetic voices they all have.
